Phil Ivey would be broke: a few thoughts on this rumor

Recently, PokerCollectif spoke you of the new star of poker, Dan Bilzerian.

Today, it is not for his extravagant lifestyle that we are talking about him, but for one of his statements in an interview with the magazine Card Player.

A passage from this interview is as follows:

"If you want my opinion, professional poker players should take a real budget and provision their upcoming expenditures." But they do not do it, and it is precisely for this reason that these guys there end up broke. Tom Dwan? He ended up broke. Phil Ivey? It has just become. All of these very talented characters who have made lot of money eventually squander. The list of professional players who do not end up broke is very short. It's crazy!"

Which quickly made chat poker community, it's going to be.

A thread has even been created on PokerCollectif to discuss.

Phil Ivey, broke? It's big. If we learned that Viktor Blom is broke, you might easily think. His style of play and its 'up and down' usual may suggest us. But Phil Ivey? It should be noted that in addition to the money he earned on PokerStars Macau, WSOP and other series of live tournaments, he won 16 M$ on Full Tilt Poker. Difficult to put a precise figure on his personal fortune, but let's say that it has always been part of the elite of the highstackes of poker players.

Is Phil Ivey is broke? According to Daniel Negreanu, not:

On his Twitter, Phil Ivey said: "after all these years, I still love as much play poker." I eagerly await the Aussie Millions".

No word on its financial situation. But the optimistic tone of this post might suggest that it is not.

A little more certain thing, Phil Ivey is a little less rich than in the past. You want facts?

1. the Black Friday is deprived of large incomes (not to mention that he must pay legal fees relating to this folder).

2 - His divorce also led him to the courts. An agreement made it lighter than a few million for the benefit of his former girlfriend;

3 - 2013 has not been a fantastic year for him online at Full Tilt Poker tables or on the live circuit.

4 - His return to Full Tilt was not crowned success, with more than 2.5 million dollar losses under the pseudonym Polarizing;

5 - Parts of craps, punto banco, Baccarat and other games don't give him no edge. Impossible to say however if it is winning, or losing, and how much;

6 - An pending litigation against the Crockfords Casino in London to the payment to it of a sum of £ 7.3 million.

In short, if we exclude the possible gains in Macau, things seem less well go for Phil Ivey in recent years. Want it to mean that it is broke as Dan Bilzerian? Impossible to say.

And you, what do you think?
