After losing his title in the 205 pounds division in the UFC, Rashad Evans fell in the shadow of Machida and then Jon Jones.
This is probably why Evans tries to get a big win soon and the name of Alexander Gustafsson has been pronounced.
The fact that Evans win against a fighter as well class as Gustafsson would obviously climb Evans in this category. It is a Conference post-UFC 178 that Evans made the announcement.
He said: "when I left, I was at the top and Gustafsson became better each fight. Dana, you can set up".
Gustafsson supposed to faced Anthony Johnson in the main event of the UFC on FOX 13, but has been suspended indeterminately by the UFC due to domestic violence. It is possible as we have already said here, that Johnson not ever provide the feet in the UFC.
