1080p always difficult to reach on Xbox One despite the arrival of DirectX 12

This year update for Microsoft DirectX API will not make the task easier for developers to run games at a resolution of 1080p on Xbox One, according to CD Projekt Red.

When the new version of DirectX was unveiled at GDC in March, Microsoft promised that she would bring "richest scenes, more objects and full use modern GPU" for upcoming games on Microsoft platforms. But according to a game developer, this new version of the API will not improve the ability to run games in 1080p on Xbox One.

CD Projekt Red, developer of the upcoming role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, said in an interview with GamingBolt that DirectX 12 would not help to operate the games at higher resolutions. The lead engine programmer Balazs Torok explained: "most games out there can't go 1080p because the additional load on the shading units would be too much. For all these games DX12 is not going to change anything."

Since the release of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, Microsoft's console has received much criticism for its inferior than Sony's console performance. Games which are available on these 2 consoles are regularly inferior on Xbox One, either with lesser resolution or in image quality. Microsoft's response to this problem was DirectX12 which perhaps reassured players, but has failed to convince experts in the field.

Historically, the updates to the Microsoft API have always brought a lot of novelty, improved graphics quality, but rarely better performance. In short, DirextX12 will surely be able to increase the visual effects of the console, but logically shouldn't increase the computing power of the console which is inferior than Sony.
