Some would say that it was only a matter of time before these two legends of poker are inductees into the prestigious Poker Hall of Fame! The two players had been selected four times already. This year, both players were part of the most experienced of the finalists and the oldest poker players.
For 2013, 10 players were nominated:
Chris Björin, old Swedish player of 65 years and holder of two WSOP bracelets.
Humberto Brenes, 62 years old, holding also two WSOP bracelets.
David Chiu, 53 years, whose record has five bracelets and one WPT title.
Thor Hansen, two bracelets and the Godfather of Norwegian poker nickname.
Jennifer Harman, age 48, two WSOP bracelets. Considered one of the best players of cash live game.
Mike Matusow, who this summer won his 4th bracelet.
Tom McEvoy, age 68, four bracelets.
Carlos Mortensen, 41 years. 11 million dollars of earnings, the Main Event victory in 2001, three WPT titles.
Scotty Nguyen, 51 years old, more than 11 million dollars in tournament winnings. Thanks to its four bracelets and the victory of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship in 2008.
Huck Seed, 44 years, four bracelets, whose Main Event 1996. It is also feared in cash games live in Las Vegas.
Interestingly, Scotty Nguyen had been nominated last year and had not been retained. After the verdict of the judges, he said:
"I will finish by be introduced. This is no doubt in my mind. Someday, I'll be in the Hall of Fame, even if I am unable to say when.[...] You work so much for that... You want to be a legend. You want to become a Hall of Famer."
In reaction to his induction, Tom McEvoy stated via his Facebook page:
"I hold the record for the number of unsuccessful nominations, with four failures. But this fifth attempt is magical. I want to thank you all for your kind words and your support all these years."
Meanwhile, Scotty Nguyen has posted the following message on Twitter:
"Thank you all for your love and your support all these years".
Both players will be celebrated at a ceremony in Las Vegas in conjunction with the final of the WSOP main event which will be played in November.
