After the aggression of Berlin, Barcelona

A few days ago one could read on Twoplustwo tales of a serious incident at Bercelone involving Carter Philips (winner of the 2010 WSOP shorthanded tournament $ 1500 buy-in) and William Reynolds (who finished first at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller Championship 2010).

These two players have been attacked with a machete in the margins of the EPT Barcelona while visiting the city. On his Facebook page, Carter Phillips, winner of EPT Barcelona 2009 wrote: "I should like to announce that there is 95% chance that I quit poker (note: it says more than he wants to retire from live tournaments only)." I will not say more at the moment. I'm trying to write a long explanation I would give to the poker community." What William Reynold responded shortly after: "for those who would like to take bets and make jokes, this is not the time because this has nothing to do with the game. People have been attacked and almost injured. I'm happy that the 43 cm machete has not ended my life."  The two men had been drinking when they were attacked. Luckily for them, they are now saints and unharmed, even if all could have wrong turn.

He added: "I must say that I've never been in a place in the USA where something like this can happen as this happened in Barcelona. I think that Europe is less secure than the USA (note: assertion which did much react Twoplustwo member) and when I mentioned wanting to leave the poker, I was referring to travel outside our borders. I'm tired of finding myself in high-risk situations or who are not familiar because I'm in a place that I don't know. It was a stressful situation that we could probably have avoided"said Carter Philips.

It is not always safe to walk the streets with large sums of money on us, especially in a city that one does not know much. Some poker players can have up to $ 10,000 cash on them to pay their entry to a tournament and perhaps even more if they have on them their spending money. This isn't the first story of the kind that we hear and known members of PokerCollectif have lived similar situations unfortunately.
