Overview of Ace Poker Drills

ACE Poker Drills is a software designed to help players improve their math skills at the poker. Via different quizzes, Ace Poker Drill allows players to practice to count the various outs and estimate the odds of winning hands via the "Equity Trainer".  ACE Poker Drills also offers a "pre-flop Trainer to help players improve their game preflop.

Installation of Ace Poker Drills

A few clicks, nothing very complicated. No technical knowledge required.

Ease of use

The software is easy to use. On the other hand, during our tests, the software has crashed a few times. Also, it is sometimes difficult to find some buttons, which are definitely too small.

Feature

ACE Poker Drills is divided into three panes: «Odds and outs», «Equity Trainer» and «Preflop Trainer.  The three operate under the principle of the quiz. In case of wrong answer, they give you not only the correct answer, but it also tells you why.

«Odds and outs Trainer» operates under the principle of the x 2 / x 4. Each of the hands of the quiz, to simply calculate the outs, then indicate the corresponding percentage.

Although the idea is interesting, the software however has too many errors. The outs are also greatly overestimated, especially at the level of "backdoors". For example, in the image below, Ace Poker Drills calculates that we have less than 3 outs (two types of backdoors straight draw and a backdoor flushdraw). In fact, we barely 6% chance of winning the hand (about 1.5 outs), while ace Poker Drills indicates rather 12-15% chance (the left being the comparison with PokerStove image). «odds and outs Trainer» is therefore, at best, a convenient tool for beginners and will be of no use to most players who understand the concept of the 'outs '.

Preflop Trainer also includes numerous faults.  The most important is undoubtedly the absence of the size of the mat, in addition to not take into account the types of players. Preflop Trainer is therefore at best a way of learning a Charter by heart! However, the tool is interesting for someone who starts at poker.
Finally, the Equity Trainer is probably the most interesting part of the three. It allows learning to quickly estimate the equity in one hand depending on the action. Include statistics on the opponent also makes the already more interesting tool.

In the end, although the first two components are practically useless for all players who have a small base at poker, the third installment makes the already more interesting tool and can help players understand the concept of fairness. Note that Ace Poker Drills also comes with an "Equity calculator" bonus; However, it is not very user-friendly and free software like PokerStove is much better...

Conclusion

Initially, we were particularly disappointed by Ace Poker Drills. The software was little interesting for players who are past beginner stage. However, after discovering the pane "Equity Trainer" and being able to import our played sessions previously, it came greatly improve your experience with the software.

Unless you have a friend who wants to get to the poker, we therefore consider that the "preflop" and "outs and odds" are of little interest; the "Equity Trainer" component is, however, interesting for those who wish to learn to understand in terms of "range of hands" rather than in terms of "specific hand. Note that this component is not for you learn how to play poker by giving you game suggestions, but rather to help you understand the concept of fairness... which should ultimately improve your poker!
