LEGISLATION: New Jersey passed a law legalizing online poker

new-jersey.gifGood or bad news for online poker? Last Tuesday, through Act A2570, Assembly of the State of New Jersey supported the authorization of games such as poker online. In theory, the news is confirmed, if the Governor of the State, Governor Christie, does not use its right of veto to reverse things.

If nothing changes, a law will be in effect from July 4. Note that New Jersey is the first U.S. State to adopt a law to regulate and issue licences in online poker. We have currently no list of all legalized online games, but we know that poker and sports betting are in the batch.

According to those who voted for this law, this news should give a boost to the State's economy. In response to this news, many poker players have expressed their fear that this new. Is this the beginning of split poker communities in the United States? In other words, a form of globalisation where everyone who wants to play poker is to play with its neighbours only. It seems that it is something that goes against the American ideology. For now, New Jersey poker players should play poker online with other citizens of New Jersey only, which is a great pity. Online poker rooms will also leave this State, as they were able to do in the State of Washington.

As those who follow the folder of online poker legislation are aware, the process at the federal level (of the United States) is extremely long and complex. Files lurking in length and it is always difficult to agree on one point.

PokerCollectif will keep you informed of any new detail in this folder.
